Jennifer Lopez Dishes Style Tips for Moms

After Jennifer Lopez had her twins, I wondered if she would be able to maintain the same style she had become known for. J. Lo has had some major fashion mishaps and some big fashion wins as well, but she seems to be taking mommy dressing as seriously as she takes her media empire.

While Jennifer obviously has to dress pretty over-the-top for stage performances and other events that dictate more outrageous clothing, there are more than a few pages moms can take from her play book on how to make the most of your post-kid figure.

Let’s take a look at some of the fashion “dos” that Jennifer’s been rocking since becoming a mom and how you can learn by watching her.

1.       Keep it simple. Check out the simple dress Jennifer wore for the American Idol TCA Conference. It has a modest cut – no showing off of her famous “assets” – but still hugs her in all of the right places. A longer version of this dress, made out of a comfortable fabric, would be a great choice for moms who like clean, classic lines.

2.       Don’t forget the girly factor. Okay, so maybe J’s outfit from the Golden Globes 2011 Awards Party reminded me just a little bit of Bjork’s Oscar disaster from several years ago. But what’s great about her look is that she has not forgotten that she’s a girl! When you have a chance to dress up, flouncy, flowing fabrics and soft colors are a great bet to turn on your feminine charms.

3.       Don’t be afraid of color. It’s easy to fall into the trap of wearing drab but comfortable clothing as we take care of the kids every day. The problem is we look one step out of prison guard. Lack of sleep and a crazy schedule can wreak havoc on anyone’s appearance; gray will only wash you out more. If you want to feel more awake and alive, put some bright colors on for an instant lift, like Jennifer did here on a recent trip to NYC. She sported a bright blue shirtdress and kept her accessories very simple.

4.       A smile is your best accessory. Let’s face it…you can be dolled up to the nines and have the perfect outfit on, but if your face doesn’t look happy, you’re only going to look SO good. Take a page from Jennifer’s book and use a smile as your accessory.

Don’t be sad that you don’t have an entourage tending to your every hair, clothing, and makeup whim like Jennifer does. You only need to look at paparazzi photos to get inspiration from her experts!
